Hwang made the remarks after wrapping up a two-day visit to Indonesia, where he attended a ministerial-level bilateral economic conference, the first since 2001.
Indonesia attaches great importance to trade with Taiwan, he said.
Hwang met with Indonesian Vice President Mohammed Yusuf Kalla and the ministers of energy, mineral resources and trade.
Indonesia has reaffirmed its supplies of liquid natural gas and coal to Taiwan under a previous contract, he said, and expressed an interest in cooperating with Taiwan in developing energy resources. Jakarta invited Taiwanese enterprises to set up naphtha cracking plants in Indonesia, a prospect which Hwang said Taiwan needed to examine.
Hwang said Indonesia would send a trade delegation to Taiwan in August. He also said he had invited the minister of industry to visit Taipei in the near future to strengthen bilateral exchanges.

President William Lai (賴清德) has appointed former vice president Chen Chien-jen (陳建仁) to attend the late Pope Francis’ funeral at the Vatican City on Saturday on his behalf, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said today.
