Taiwan Quick Take: Online drug sales banned
Tuesday, Jun 13, 2006, Page 3
The Taipei City Department of Health yesterday issued a reminder that selling medicine online is against the law and warned the public of the consequences. Chiang Yu-mei (姜郁美), director of the department's Food and Drug Division, said that those who sell medication made in China or abroad violate not only the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act (藥事法), but also the Criminal Code, and may receive a seven-year sentence or a fine of NT$5 million (US$152,000). Chiang said most online sellers bring the medicine back from their trips abroad and sell them through Internet auction Web sites.
