Taiwan Quick Take: Ballroom contest starts soon

The 2006 Taiwan Ballroom Championship will begin on July 1 at the Taipei municipal stadium, with more than 1,000 ballroom dancers from around the world competing in the event, organizers said on Friday. According to the chairman of the ROC International Dance Sport Association, dancers from 15 countries -- including Russia, Britain, Slovenia, Italy, Japan and Latvia -- will take part in the race, vying for total prize money of NT$600,000 (US$20,000). The oldest dancer, an 81-year-old, and the youngest dancer, an 11-year-old -- both from Taiwan -- form an extremely eye-catching couple and displayed their outstanding dancing skills at the news conference.
