Following security checks on the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant by Taiwan Power Co (Taipower) and the Atomic Energy Council (AEC), Taipower is planning to invite experts from the US and Japan to confirm the results in order to dispel any lingering doubts the public might have about the plant's safety. Construction of the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant was suspended in October 2000 but then resumed in February 2001. The work is still ongoing. As certain people have protested the project, Minister of Economic Affairs Hwang Ing-san (黃營杉) instructed Taipower to invite experts from international nuclear organizations to conduct their own safety checks.
