After learning of Lin's decision, DPP Chairman Yu Shyi-kun said yesterday that he had instructed DPP Deputy Secretary-General Lin Yi-cheng (
"We would hope that party members would work together with perseverance when the party is facing difficult times," Yu said. "Hopefully people will give the DPP time and I expect the administration could also help us to regain our morale. I believe the DPP will rise again."

"But I don't think it's a good idea for him to resign," Lee said. "I told him that if he is disappointed with the party, the best way to solve the problem is to stay on and to find out what he can do for the party, rather than to leave."
Meanwhile, a group of young DPP lawmakers suggested holding a conference to discuss the predicament in which the party finds itself in light of the so-called "Ma Ying-jeou phenomenon."
At the time of going to press, Lin Wuei-chou had not responded to his colleagues' calls for him to stay.

Heat advisories were in effect for nine administrative regions yesterday afternoon as warm southwesterly winds pushed temperatures above 38°C in parts of southern Taiwan, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said. As of 3:30pm yesterday, Tainan’s Yujing District (玉井) had recorded the day’s highest temperature of 39.7°C, though the measurement will not be included in Taiwan’s official heat records since Yujing is an automatic rather than manually operated weather station, the CWA said. Highs recorded in other areas were 38.7°C in Kaohsiung’s Neimen District (內門), 38.2°C in Chiayi City and 38.1°C in Pingtung’s Sandimen Township (三地門), CWA data showed. The spell of scorching
