Taiwan Quick Take: Seoul envoy to be replaced
Tuesday, Mar 21, 2006, Page 3
The nation's representative to South Korea, Lee Tsai-fang (李在方), has been removed from his post, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on its Web site yesterday. The Web site published a March 10 directive from President Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁) to show that Lee's resignation had been approved. Ministry officials said that as a political appointee, Lee's removal followed procedure and was part of the normal practice of rotating posts among diplomatic officials. Ministry Spokesman Michel Lu (呂慶龍) declined to comment on whether Lee was removed because of his alleged clashes with overseas Chinese, saying only that the rotation was normal and praising Lee's performance during his term.
