"Lien has invited his friends in the private sector to together establish this foundation, which will help the KMT contribute more to cross-strait peace," he said.
Chang also rejected speculation that the foundation intends to "borrow" NT$30 million from the KMT as "groundless and baseless."

Chang said that the KMT will host a forum on cross-strait peace in China before the end of the year.
However, another forum on cross-strait economic matters that was to have been held this month or next has stalled because the KMT has been unable to reach a consensus with Beijing on the program's content.

Heat advisories were in effect for nine administrative regions yesterday afternoon as warm southwesterly winds pushed temperatures above 38°C in parts of southern Taiwan, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said. As of 3:30pm yesterday, Tainan’s Yujing District (玉井) had recorded the day’s highest temperature of 39.7°C, though the measurement will not be included in Taiwan’s official heat records since Yujing is an automatic rather than manually operated weather station, the CWA said.
