Minister without Portfolio Lin Ferng-ching (ªL³{¼y) on Monday signed a memorandum of agreement with the Berkeley branch of the University of California to promote exchanges and cooperation in the field of information security.
Lin, who doubles as the deputy convener of the Executive Yuan's Science and Technology Advisory Group, is leading a four-member delegation on a visit to San Francisco. He signed the deal with Paul Gray, executive vice chancellor and provost of UC Berkeley, in an effort to enhance Taiwan's manpower and technological capability in the information security sector.
Lin explained that the memorandum covers three categories: technological research and transfer, personnel exchanges and consultations. The exchanges will involve government and academia.
Besides the UC Berkeley links, the delegation, organized to seek cross-national information security technological cooperation, will also sign a cooperative memorandum with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) during its US visit.
