Representatives of seven Taiwanese associations in Southern California demonstrated in front of Singapore's US west coast tourist office Wednesday to protest what they called Singaporean foreign minister George Yeo's (·¨ºa¤å) "inappropriate remarks" about Taiwan.
Over 60 protesters carried posters reading "Support Taiwan Independence" and "One Taiwan, One China" and chanted slogans.
Wu Ming-yung (§d©ú«i), organizer of the demonstration, said Yeo's speech at the UN General Assembly in New York last month hurt the feelings of the people of Taiwan and claimed that it will impair Taiwan-Singapore relations.
An official of Singapore's travel office met with Wu and said the quasi-official office could not issue a statement on behalf of the government. But the official promised to convey their protest to Singapore's representative office in San Francisco.
