Garden of Hope, Taisalt celebrate profitable year

The Garden of Hope Foundation and Taisalt celebrated a special kind of wedding anniversary yesterday during a press conference.

The foundation joined in a commercial alliance with Taisalt to open the Love and Warmth Welfare Shop in Taipei last year.

The store earned its way by selling Taisalt toiletry products and managed to break even within a month. It is estimated to have clocked up sales of around NT$700,000 per month, with an annual profit of nearly NT$1 million. The foundation is planning to open two more stores using the same cooperative model.

Foundation executive director Su Shih-tsung (Ĭ§Æ©v) said that it was not ordinarily easy for a welfare organization to secure finances, but also that the new model of cooperation between a welfare group and a for-profit company had helped both organizations and the store they started to benefit.

Su said that the name of the company had helped sales in the store, and had in return encouraged a charitable image for Taisalt.

"It was the most convenient and successful way for this non-profit welfare group to get funds. It also helped to provide more employment opportunities and to help women enrich themselves," Su said.

The welfare store has donated NT$50,000 from its profits to the Garden of Hope Foundation. The remainder would be used to help build the two other stores, Taisalt said. Taisalt also said it would donate goods worth NT$50,000 to sell in the store, which in turn would benefit the foundation.

Taisalt chairman Cheng Pao-ching (¾GÄ_²M) said that contributing to welfare groups was the social responsibility of every entrepreneur. He also said that this "innovative model for cooperation" brought a positive image to the company.

He also said that he hoped more people would take care of minority groups.
