The officials said the delegation will leave Taiwan tomorrow and return on Jan. 15.
The officials said the Marshall Islands is a staunch ally of Taiwan, and the minister would attend the inauguration ceremony of president-elect Kessai Note on Jan. 12 in his capacity as an envoy of President Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁).
Chien will extend his congratulations to the people and the government of the Marshall Islands, and will also exchange views on international affairs and matters of mutual concern with government officials.
He will also visit overseas Chinese, Taiwan's embassy and technical missions in the Marshall Islands, the officials said, adding that the trip was expected to strengthen bilateral understanding and friendship.
Chien will visit Kiribati for two days at the invitation of President Anote Tong and preside over the opening of the Taiwanese embassy in the nation, the officials said.
Taiwan and Kiribati established diplomatic relations on Nov. 7 last year.
To promote bilateral cooperation in the agriculture and fishery sectors, the ministry has commissioned the International Cooperation and Development Fund to send a group to examine these industries and to assess the feasibility of establishing a technical mission there.
The ministry also commissioned the non-profit Chinese International Economic Cooperation Association to organize a delegation to visit the Marshall Islands and Kiribati last month, the officials said.
