Lu urges China not to reject Taiwan and heed its cause

    CNA, ASUNCION,
    Sunday, Aug 17, 2003, Page 2

Vice President Annette Lu (§f¨q½¬) urged the Chinese leadership on Friday not to reject Taiwan and instead to pay more heed to the nation's cause.

Lu made the call while attending a dinner in Asuncion, Paraguay, given by members of the local Chinese community in her honor.

Noting that she originally planned to visit Boeing Co in Seattle, Lu said that to the best of her knowledge, China has pressured Boeing to refuse her visit.

Calling the Chinese leadership "stingy," Lu said that Beijing's efforts to isolate Taiwan will only alienate the nation.

China has consistently spared no effort in pressuring foreign governments not to accept visits from the Taiwan's president and vice president.

"And now, they have expanded their scope even to private corporations," Lu said.
