Minister of the Interior Yu Cheng-hsien (余政憲) was criticized for his absence during a meeting of the legislature's Home and Nations Committee yesterday after he chose to attend a meeting of the Sanitation, Environment and Social Welfare Committee instead.
Yu had been invited by both committees to attend their meetings to answer lawmakers' questions. However, the two meetings were scheduled for the same time.
Yu was supposed to discuss details of the Cabinet's planned national pension program.
Yu assigned Vice Minister Chien Tai-lang (簡太郎) to attend the Home and Nations Committee's meeting for him -- a decision that irritated its members.
