Troy Tulowitzki broke out of his post-season doldrums on Sunday, belting a three-run homer to lift Toronto to a 5-1 victory that kept them alive in their Major League Baseball playoff series against Texas.
The Rangers still lead the Blue Jays in the best-of-five American League Division Series 2-1 and they can advance with a win when they were due to host the Blue Jays in Game 4 yesterday.
The winners of the series face either the Houston Astros or the Kansas City Royals in the American League Championship Series.

Astros first baseman Chris Carter had three hits, including his first post-season home run, as Houston beat the visiting Royals 4-2 to take a 2-1 lead in their series.
With a win at home yesterday, the Astros could end the Royals’ bid to return to the World Series a season after they fell in the title showcase to the San Francisco Giants.

He was dropped to sixth in the batting order for the first time this season. The move paid off when he collected a bases-loaded walk in the fourth inning that put Toronto 2-0 up.
Two innings later, Tulowitzki broke the game open with his three-run homer to left field with two outs off Texas reliever Chi Chi Gonzalez.
“I had a good pitch to hit and finally put a good swing on one,” Tulowitzki said.
His output was plenty of support for Toronto starter Marco Estrada, who allowed five hits and one run over 6-1/3 innings. He struck out four and did not issue a walk.
The Rangers did not have a base-runner until third baseman Hanser Alberto hit a two-out double in the bottom of the third inning. By then, the Blue Jays had put up one run against Rangers starting pitcher Martin Perez, with catcher Dioner Navarro scoring on a double-play ground ball in the third.
Toronto doubled the advantage in the fourth when Tulowitzki drew a run-batted-in walk.
After two perfect innings to open the contest, Perez struggled with his command and finished by walking three and allowing four runs on six hits.
He was pulled after allowing back-to-back hits to open the sixth inning.
The Rangers scored their lone run in the seventh on a ground ball from second baseman Rougned Odor.
In Houston, Texas, starting pitcher Dallas Keuchel held Kansas City to one run in seven innings to lead the Astros to victory.
He threw a season-high 124 pitches and stranded runners at first and third base in each of his final two innings.
In the seventh, Keuchel stayed in the game to face Royals center fielder Lorenzo Cain, who had smacked a towering homer to lead off the fourth inning and represented the tying run in a two-run game.
Keuchel struck him out and left the game having allowed one run on five hits and three walks, with seven strikeouts.
Carter belted a one-out double in the fifth inning, singled and hit a first-pitch leadoff home run in the seventh off Royals left-hander Danny Duffy.
Royals starting pitcher Edinson Volquez had kept the Astros in check through four innings. He took a 1-0 lead into the fifth inning, but surrendered a two-run single to Astros catcher Jason Castro.
The Astros added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh.
Revelations of positive doping tests for nearly two dozen Chinese swimmers that went unpunished sparked an intense flurry of accusations and legal threats between the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the head of the US drug-fighting organization, who has long been one of WADA’s fiercest critics. WADA on Saturday said it was turning to legal counsel to address a statement released by US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) CEO Travis Tygart, who said WADA and anti-doping authorities in China swept positive tests “under the carpet by failing to fairly and evenly follow the global rules that apply to everyone else in the world.” The
Taiwanese judoka Yang Yung-wei on Saturday won silver in the men’s under-60kg category at the Asian Judo Championships in Hong Kong. Nicknamed the “judo heartthrob” in Taiwan, the Olympic silver-medalist missed out on his first Asian Championships gold when he lost to Japanese judoka Taiki Nakamura in the finals. Yang defeated three opponents on Saturday to reach the final after receiving a bye through the round of 32. He first topped Laotian Soukphaxay Sithisane in the round of 16 with two seoi nage (over-the-shoulder throws), then ousted Indian Vijay Kumar Yadav in the quarter-finals with his signature ude hishigi sankaku gatame (triangular armlock). Taiwanese gymnast Lee Chih-kai failed to secure an Olympic berth in the pommel horse following a second-place finish at the last qualifier in Doha on Friday, a performance that Lee and his coach called “unconvincing.” The Tokyo Olympics silver medalist finished runner-up in the final after scoring 6.6 for degree of difficulty and 8.800 for execution for a combined score of 15.400. That was just 0.100 short of Jordan’s Ahmad Abu Al Soud, who had qualified for the event in Paris before the Apparatus World Cup series in Qatar’s capital. After missing the final rounds in the first two of four qualifier
