Taiwan cruised to a 2-0 lead in their Davis Cup Asian/Oceania Group II tie against Lebanon in Kaohsiung yesterday.

Taiwanese No. 1 Lu Yen-hsun opened the tie by crushing Ibrahim Abou Chahine 6-0, 6-0, 6-1 in the opening singles rubber at the Kaohsiung Yangming Tennis Courts yesterday morning.

In the second singles rubber, Taiwan’s Hung Jui-chen dropped just two games on his way to a 6-0, 6-1, 6-1 victory over Karim Alayli as the hosts wrapped up a commanding 2-0 lead almost in time for lunch.

It is the first time Taiwan have hosted Lebanon in the Davis Cup, after the Middle East team won promotion to Group II after a 2-0 victory over Malaysia in their promotion playoff last year.

Taiwan are looking to bounce back to Group I at the first attempt after being relegated to Group II for the first time since 2003 after losing to New Zealand in their Group I relegation playoff in October last year and they will be looking to wrap up the victory in the doubles rubber at 2pm this afternoon in Kaohsiung when Ho Chih-jen and Wang Chieh-fu take on Chahine and Alayli.
