Francisco Liriano narrowly missed out on his second no-hitter of the season as the Minnesota Twins beat the Texas Rangers 6-1 in the American League on Sunday.
Liriano (4-6), who held the Chicago White Sox hitless in on May 3, was perfect through the seventh inning against the high-scoring Rangers, before Adrian Beltre led off the eighth with a single.

Liriano matched a season high by striking out nine batters in eight innings, allowing two hits without a walk.
The Twins scored five times in the seventh, an inning that included an injury to Texas starter Matt Harrison.
Harrison (5-6) left after being struck on his arm by Danny Valencia’s line drive leading off the seventh.

In New York, Derek Jeter had a pair of RBI singles, while Alex Rodriguez drove in three runs as New York beat slumping Cleveland.
Jeter singled during a five-run fifth inning and again during a three-run eighth, closing within seven hits of 3,000 for his career.
Curtis Granderson went 4 for 4 and drove in a pair of runs, while Brett Gardner had a pair of doubles, a triple and scored three times. New York had a season-high 18 hits in the game.
Freddy Garcia (5-5) beat Cleveland for the first time in seven tries.
RED SOX 14, BLUE JAYS 1
In Toronto, Jon Lester pitched two-hit ball over eight innings, while David Ortiz and Kevin Youkilis each homered and drove in four runs as Boston won their ninth in a row.
Adrian Gonzalez and Dustin Pedroia also homered for Boston, who never trailed while sweeping the series against the Blue Jays.
Gonzalez connected in the first off Kyle Drabek (4-5) for his 13th home run. Gonzalez leads the majors with 60 RBIs.

Tommy Hanson struck out a career-high 14 in seven innings, while Brian McCann and Dan Uggla hit two-run homers as the Atlanta Braves beat the Houston Astros 4-1 in the National League on Sunday for their sixth straight win.
Hanson (8-4) gave up one run and three hits. He struck out five in a row early in the game and fanned the last three batters he faced.
The Astros lost for the eighth time in nine games and struck out 17 times overall.
Uggla hit his eighth homer, a shot to left field off Brett Myers (2-6) that put Atlanta up 2-0 in the first inning.
DIAMONDBACKS 5, MARLINS 1
In Miami, Daniel Hudson allowed one run in six-plus innings, while Stephen Drew had three hits and two RBIs as Arizona handed Florida their 10th loss in 11 games.
Florida had at least one hit every inning, but left 13 runners on base.
Hudson (7-5) won for the seventh time in eight games since starting the season 0-4. He gave up eight hits with three walks and seven strikeouts.

In Denver, Colorado, James Loney hit his second career Grand Slam, while rookie Rubby de la Rosa pitched five effective innings, before leaving with a forearm cramp to help Los Angeles hold off Colorado.
Matt Kemp hit his NL-leading 20th homer and Rod Barajas added another for the Dodgers.
De la Rosa (3-0) picked up the win for Los Angeles, while his Colorado counterpart, Ubaldo Jimenez (1-7), surrendered a career-high three homers.
Carlos Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzki each hit two-run homers for Colorado in the seventh.
