Matt Bradley had a goal and an assist as the Washington Capitals held off a Buffalo comeback and beat the Sabres 4-2 in the NHL on Wednesday.
It was Bradley’s first multiple-point game of the season. Nicklas Backstrom and David Steckel also scored as the Capitals took a 3-0 lead early in the second period.
Derek Roy and Jordan Leopold scored less than a minute apart in the second period for Buffalo.
Washington’s Alexander Semin had an empty-net goal in the final seconds and an assist.

In Detroit, Dan Cleary’s second goal of the game broke a third-period tie and began a four-goal rally to lift Detroit over St Louis.
Drew Miller and Justin Abdelkader each had a goal and an assist. Henrik Zetterberg, Brad Stuart and Tomas Holmstrom also scored for Detroit.
St Louis’ Andy McDonald had a goal and two assists, Brad Boyes a goal and an assist and Brad Winchester also scored.

In Pittsburgh, the hosts beat Vancouver in regulation for the first time in 10 years.
Pittsburgh’s Sidney Crosby scored on a breakaway seven seconds after leaving the penalty box and Max Talbot scored short-handed.
Defenseman Dan Hamhuis scored for the visitors.

In Los Angeles, the hosts perfect run of home wins to start the season was ended at eight by Columbus.
Columbus punctuated the best start in franchise history with an impressive three-goal third period to beat the Kings.
Rick Nash scored the tiebreaking goal with 3:12 to play, Andrew Murray and Rostislav Klesla also scored for the Blue Jackets and Nash added an empty-netter.
Justin Williams, Michal Handzus and Ryan Smyth scored for the Kings.

In Atlanta, Stephen Weiss and Radek Dvorak scored second-period goals as Florida beat Atlanta.
Tomas Vokoun stopped 38 shots for Florida. He has allowed only one goal in each of his three straight wins in a span of a week.
