Marian Hossa scored a pair of goals 2:31 apart late in the third period to erase an early two-goal deficit, then Patrick Sharp connected at 3:50 of overtime to give the Chicago Blackhawks a 3-2 win over the St Louis Blues on Monday.
Sharp scored from just to the left of the crease after taking a cross-ice pass from Patrick Kane and whipping a shot past Jaroslav Halak.
Sharp’s fifth goal in three games extended Chicago’s winning streak to three. Hossa spoiled a shutout bid by Halak with 6:48 left in the third when he scored a power-play goal by backhanding in a rebound off Brent Seabrook’s shot.
Hossa leveled it at 2-2 with 4:17 to go when he fired in a loose puck, also on a backhand shot, from a scrum in the crease.
It was his seventh goal in seven games this season.
David Perron scored his first two goals of the season for the Blues, whose losing streak reached three.
PENGUINS 5, SENATORS 2
In Pittsburgh, Sidney Crosby and Mark Letestu scored power-play goals in the first period as the Penguins won their third in a row, ruining Sergei Gonchar’s return to Pittsburgh by beating Ottawa.
Evgeni Malkin also scored as the Penguins won their fourth in five games since losing three of their first four games. All three of those losses were in the new Consol Energy Center, where the Penguins have since won their past two.
ISLANDERS 2, MAPLE LEAFS 1, OT
In Toronto, John Tavares scored at 3:26 of overtime to lift New York past Toronto.
With Brett Lebda in the penalty box for goaltender interference, Tavares one-timed a shot past Jean-Sebastien Giguere. Giguere finished with 18 saves.
Matt Moulson also scored for the Islanders, who are off to a strong start despite injuries to regulars Mark Streit, Kyle Okposo and Trent Hunter.
Phil Kessel scored a power-play goal late in the third period for Toronto.
AVALANCHE 3, RANGERS 1
In New York, Chris Stewart scored his second power-play goal of the game in the third period and Daniel Winnik extended Colorado’s lead 26 seconds later as the Avalanche ended a five-game road trip with a victory over New York.
With the game tied 1-1, Stewart shoved down defenseman Steve Eminger in the crease, took a pass from the trapezoid from Paul Stastny, and shoved the puck past goalie Henrik Lundqvist at 7:20.
LIGHTNING 5, STARS 4
In Tampa Bay, Steven Stamkos had a goal and two assists, and Dominic Moore scored two goals as Tampa Bay beat Dallas.
Tampa Bay also got goals from Steve Downie and Sean Bergenheim.
Stamkos has five goals and four assists in five games this season.
Toby Petersen, Adam Burish, Brenden Morrow and James Neal scored for the Stars, who had started the season by winning four in a row.
Dallas, which entered with the third-worst penalty-killing unit in the NHL, allowed four power-play goals.
