Josh Willingham hit a three-run homer as the Washington Nationals hung on to beat the San Diego Padres 5-3 in the National League on Friday.
Ian Desmond had a solo shot for the Nationals, while starting pitcher John Lannan (2-2) earned his first victory in seven weeks, giving up only one earned run in seven innings.
Washington closer Matt Capps got out of a huge jam in the ninth inning to earn his major league-leading 17th save in 18 chances.
The Nationals protested the game because of an incorrect lineup card.
Adam Russell was listed as San Diego’s starting pitcher, but it was Clayton Richard who took the mound.
Richard (4-3) gave up two homers, compared with just one in his previous nine starts combined.

In Denver, Colorado, Manny Ramirez broke out of a slump with a go-ahead two-run homer in the sixth inning as Los Angeles beat Colorado.
Ramirez capped the Dodgers’ four-run sixth with his 549th career home run and his first at Coors Field, clearing the center field wall to put the Dodgers on top by a run.
The drive was his first since April 18 and broke a tie with Mike Schmidt for 14th on the all-time list.
Jonathan Broxton got three outs for his 12th save, helping the Dodgers end the Rockies’ season-high five-game winning streak.
A homer by Matt Kemp leading off the fifth inning ended Jeff Francis’ run of 16-and-a-third consecutive scoreless innings for Colorado. Francis (1-1) allowed five runs in five-and-a-third innings.
Los Angeles rookie Carlos Monasterios (2-0) took the win, giving up only two earned runs in five innings.

Freddy Garcia out-pitched David Price to steer the Chicago White Sox to a 4-2 win over the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League on Friday.
Garcia (4-3) gave up just two runs and four hits in seven innings. Price (7-2) allowed three runs over seven innings. His only other loss this season also came against the White Sox.
Alex Rios hit a two-run homer for Chicago.
White Sox bench coach Joey Cora filled in for manager Ozzie Guillen, who was attending the high school graduation of his son.

In Detroit, Michigan, Miguel Cabrera hit three home runs in a game for the first time in his career, but it wasn’t enough for Detroit to beat Oakland.
Landon Powell homered and drove in two runs for the A’s.
Oakland reliever Brad Ziegler (2-2) gave up one hit in the eighth inning to take the win, while closer Andrew Bailey shut down Detroit after giving up a leadoff homer to Cabrera.
Tigers reliever Ryan Perry (1-4) gave up two runs to take the loss.

In New York, Phil Hughes returned to form with seven strong innings to guide New York past Cleveland.
Hughes struck out the first five batters he faced and allowed two runs.

For Cleveland, Russell Branyan hit a homer and Jhonny Peralta had an RBI double.
