Blue Jays rough up LA Angels to reach 20-game milestone

AMERICAN LEAGUE

The Toronto Blue Jays became the first American League team to reach the 20-win milestone this season, dominating the Los Angeles Angels in a 13-1 victory on Wednesday.

Pitcher Roy Halladay became the majors’ second six-game winner, joining Kansas City’s Zack Greinke atop the victory list, by dominating the Angels over eight innings. The right-hander allowed only one run while striking out six.

The Blue Jays increased their lead in the AL East to two games over Boston.

RAYS 4, YANKEES 3, 10 INNINGS

In New York, Carlos Pena homered leading off the 10th inning to give Tampa Bay a tight win over New York. The Rays survived a sudden downpour and Mark Teixeira’s tying, three-run double for the Yankees in the eighth.

The Yankees, who stranded runners on second and third in the ninth, have lost four straight.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Albert Pujols homered for the fourth time in five games to give St Louis a 4-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates in the National League on Wednesday, snapping the Cardinals’ three-game losing skid.

Chris Duncan’s two-run triple in the fourth inning was the go-ahead hit for the hosts.

Pujols went 4 for 4 and is batting .611 with two homers and three RBIs against the Pirates in five games this season.

Pittsburgh has lost eight of nine.
