Hsu Wen-hsiung pitched 6-1/3 innings of shutout ball, Lin Chih-sheng drove in a run on a 2-for-3 night, and the La New Bears edged past the Sinon Bulls in a 2-1 thriller at the Kaohsiung County Baseball Stadium on Tuesday.
The pair proved their worth with a three-hit gem by Hsu and Lin knocking in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh with a clutch double to help the top-ranked Bears open a one-game lead over the Lions.
Pan Chung-wei’s two-out single gave the home Bears a quick 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second, which stood through the sixth in a pitchers’ duel between Hsu and Wilton Chavez until Lin made it 2-0 to the Bears with an RBI-double in the seventh.
The Bulls broke through in the eighth with a run of their own and threatened to tie the game with runners on first and second and two outs in the top of the ninth before Jermaine Van Buren induced a comebacker to the mound for the game-ending groundout.

Seven late-game runs by the Chinatrust Whales broke open an otherwise close contest against the dmedia T-Rex as they ran away with a 10-2 victory in Sinjhuang.
Both starters, Chu Jien-ming of the Whales and Chang Hsien-chih of the T-Rex, were effective in holding the opposing hitters in check with Chu allowing two runs on five hits and Chang giving up three runs also on five hits over seven frames.
In the end, it was the Whales offense that stole the show erupting for seven runs over the final two innings to put the game away.
