A second-half strike from Choe Kum-chol gave North Korea a 1-0 home win over Turkmenistan in their 2010 World Cup qualifier yesterday, putting the team top of Group Three.
The victory in Pyongyang gives the hosts, still to concede a goal in the group, eight points from four games, three more than South Korea. Jordan are third with four points.
North Korea controlled much of the game against the Central Asian team, but struggled to break down the resolute defense.
With the game heading toward a goalless stalemate, Choe fired home with 19 minutes remaining.
