Kids to celebrate kick-off with tournament in Taipei

Before the Euro 2008 championships begin in Basel, Switzerland, later today, there's a chance to savor some soccer action closer to home.
As Austria and Switzerland prepare to host Europe¡¦s premier soccer tournament, the Austrian Tourism Office and the Trade Office of Swiss Industries in Taipei are organizing a children¡¦s ¡§Mini Euro 2008¡¨ soccer tournament today at the Taipei European School at 727 Wenlin Road, Shilin, Taipei.
The tournament, which begins at 9:30am and continues until 5pm this evening, will feature 24 teams competing in three age categories ¡X under-8, under-10 and under-12. Teams will compete throughout the day for the ¡§Mini Euro 2008 Cup.¡¨
Various side activities will also be taking place during the day, including a fun slide, human table soccer and face painting. Food and drinks will be available and there will also be a lucky draw, with the grand prizes being flights to Switzerland and Austria.
All proceeds from the raffle will go to local charities.
All are welcome to watch the action and get a taste of Euro 2008 before the event itself begins at midnight, when Switzerland host the Czech Republic in the tournament¡¦s opening game.
