The Bruins started the week hoping to close the gap on Ottawa for the Eastern Conference's top spot, but lost their third straight game and finished their homestand 1-4.
Boyes was making his first appearance in Boston since the Bruins traded him to the Blues last season.

In Ottawa, Patrick Sharp scored the tying goal early in the third period and set up Jonathan Toews' winner in overtime as Chicago beat Ottawa.
Toews redirected Sharp's pass beyond Ray Emery 2:08 into overtime to finish with a goal and two assists.
Thrashers 3, Canadiens 2, SO
In Atlanta, Slava Kozlov and Marian Hossa each scored in the shootout to push Atlanta past Montreal.
Atlanta has won three straight after losing four in a row.
The Canadiens, who were tied for fifth in the NHL with 23 road points, had previously won four straight away from Montreal.
Atlanta's Kari Lehtonen, who made 32 saves in regulation and three in overtime, stopped the two attempts he faced in the shootout.

In Sunrise, Florida, Pavel Kubina scored a power-play goal 34 seconds into overtime to help Toronto down Florida and snap a three-game losing streak.
Toronto improved to 2-3 on its seven-game road trip.
Islanders 3, Capitals 2, OT
In Uniondale, New York, Richard Park's goal 3:43 into overtime helped the New York Islanders beat Washington.
Park took Radek Martinek's pass in the lower left circle and beat Olie Kolzig with a wrist shot for his sixth goal of the season, giving the Islanders consecutive wins for the first time in more than a month.
Rick DiPietro stopped 14 shots in his 106th NHL victory.
That moved him into a third-place tie with Kelly Hrudey on the Islanders' career list.
