    Workers Strike

    DPA, JOHANNESBURG
    Thursday, Nov 22, 2007, Page 20

Another strike by workers at a 2010 FIFA World Cup stadium in South Africa yesterday -- the second this month -- threatened to cast a pall over preparations for the preliminary World Cup draw in Durban on Sunday.

More than 1,000 construction workers downed tools yesterday morning at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga Province, demanding more pay.

Confirming the strike, a spokesman for the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), which represents many of the 2010 construction workers, said that, unlike the recent two-week strike at Durban's 2010 stadium, NUM had not called the Nelspruit work stoppage.

"The strike action was called by members," Leshiba Seshoka said.
