"If I've hit it well I haven't putted well. If I've hit it poorly I've made everything," he said. "It's just one of those weird things."
The field of 156 includes 98 of the world's 100 top-ranked players. German veteran Bernhard Langer withdrew on Tuesday due to illness, opening a spot for US player Ted Purdy.
No European since Scottish-born Tommy Armour in 1930 has won the PGA Championship. No European had won any major since the 1999 British Open until Harrington won a British Open playoff over Sergio Garica three weeks ago.
"It's strange. There's so much talent on the European side. Just hasn't happened. Hard to explain," Woods said.
Woods does not think Harrington's victory makes a European drought-ender any more likely here this week.
"I don't think that psychologically it will change just because one person has won," he said. "You've got to look at your own game and see how you are doing as an individual."
