Kenny Rogers, making his first start of the season after a blood clot was removed from his pitching shoulder, allowed two hits over six innings on Friday to lead the Detroit Tigers past the Atlanta Braves 5-0.

The Braves were shut out for the third straight game, stretching their scoreless streak to 28 innings. It was the first time since 1988 that Atlanta has been the victim of three straight shutouts.

The 42-year-old Rogers played a vital role in Detroit's run to the World Series last year, but needed surgery late in spring training when the clot was discovered in his left shoulder.

After two rehabilitation outings in the minor leagues, Rogers breezed through a Braves lineup that's having trouble scoring.

Rogers (1-0) gave up singles in the fourth and sixth innings.

Cubs 5, White Sox 1

At Chicago, Carlos Zambrano matched a career-high with 12 strikeouts as the Cubs handed their crosstown rival its 20th loss in 25 games.

Alfonso Soriano homered off Mark Buehrle leading off the game and Aramis Ramirez, activated from the disabled list earlier in the day, added a solo shot two outs later.

Nationals 4, Indians 1

At Washington, Brandon Watson went 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead Washington past Cleveland just a few days after earning a promotion based on a 43-game minor league hitting streak.

Watson got his first multi-RBI game in the majors with a fourth-inning single and a sixth-inning hit that he stretched into a double.

Mets 9, Athletics 1

At New York, Tom Glavine picked up his 296th victory by ending a five-start winless streak as the New York Mets trounced Oakland.

Glavine pitched into the ninth inning and added two hits and two RBIs. Shawn Green hit a solo home run and a two-run double and Carlos Beltran homered and drove in two runs for the Mets, who won for the fifth time in 19 games in June.

Dodgers 6, Devil Rays 3

At St. Petersburg, Florida, Luis Gonzalez homered and had two RBIs and Russell Martin hit a two-run single to lead Los Angeles past Tampa Bay.

Gonzalez hit a solo homer in a two-run second and added an RBI triple in a two-run eighth that put the Dodgers ahead 6-3.

Martin's single gave the Dodgers a 4-0 lead in the fifth.

Blue Jays 9, Rockies 8

At Toronto, John McDonald's two-run single in the 10th inning tied it and Curtis Thigpen scored the winning run on catcher Chris Iannetta's throwing error to give Toronto the wild victory over Colorado.

Troy Tulowitzki's two-run homer gave the Rockies an 8-6 lead in the top of the 10th, but Toronto loaded the bases in the bottom half on three straight singles from Matt Stairs, Aaron Hill and Thigpen.

Brewers 11, Royals 6

At Milwaukee, Corey Hart homered and drove in four runs and rookie Ryan Braun had four hits for Milwaukee against Kansas City.

Jeff Suppan struggled but won for the third time in nine starts to lead the first-place Brewers to their eighth win in nine games since being no-hit by Detroit's Justin Verlander on June 12.
