Second-seeded Tommy Robredo came back from a set and 3-0 down to beat fellow Spaniard Alberto Martin 6-7 (4), 7-5, 6-2 in the second round of the Estoril Open on Thursday.

"I started playing more aggressively because at the beginning I wasn't in the match," Robredo said. "It's great to win this way because it builds up your confidence."

Robredo will face seventh-seeded Agustin Calleri in the quarter-finals after Calleri beat Juan Martin del Potro who retired with a fever.

Fifth-seeded Richard Gasquet reached his fifth quarter-finals this year, beating wild card Frederico Gil of Portugal 6-1, 6-2.

The Frenchman will meet Vince Spadea of the US, who topped Olivier Patience of France 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 to make the last eight on European clay for the first time since the 2004 Rome Masters.

In the women's event, 17-year-old Victoria Azarenka of Belarus eliminated second seed Francesca Schiavone of Italy 6-2, 6-2.

Azarenka's first WTA Tour quarter-finals since October will be against Gisela Dulko of Argentina, who beat ninth-seeded Flavia Pennetta of Italy 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.

Fifth-seeded Olga Poutchkova of Russia retired with a virus, handing the game to Sofia Arvidsson of Sweden.

Also, Nuria Llagostera Vives of Spain topped Nika Ozegovic of Croatia, 6-3, 6-0, and Greta Arn of Germany beat Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
