Johan Franzen scored early in the second overtime period, leading the Detroit Red Wings to a series-clinching 2-1 victory over the Calgary Flames on Sunday night.

Detroit, the top-seeded team in the Western Conference, won the series 4-2 and will play either sixth-seeded Dallas or No. 5 San Jose in round two.

Franzen took a cross-ice pass off the boards from Nicklas Lidstrom, cruised into the high slot and beat Miikka Kiprusoff at 4:23 of the second extra period.

Robert Lang also scored for the Red Wings, who won at Calgary for the first time since April 3 last year after outshooting the Flames 55-21.

At Tampa, Florida, goalie Martin Brodeur stopped 32 shots and Brian Gionta scored two goals to lead New Jersey into the second round.

Brian Rafalski also scored and Patrick Elias assisted three New Jersey goals to ensure the best-of-seven series would end in six games. The Devils advanced to play the Ottawa Senators.

Brad Richards scored two power-play goals for Tampa Bay, which was shutout by Brodeur in Game 5 after scoring three goals against the three-time Stanley Cup champion goalie in each of the first four games.
