Tsao Chin-hui and Dodgers agree on a one-year contract

    AP, LOS ANGELES
    Saturday, Jan 20, 2007, Page 18

The Los Angeles Dodgers have agreed on the terms of a one-year contract with Taiwanese reliever Tsao Chin-hui, formerly a top prospect in the Colorado Rockies organization.

The agreement is contingent on Tsao's passing a physical examination, which won't happen until next week at the earliest.

The 25-year-old right-hander hasn't pitched in a US Major League Baseball game since undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum in May 2005. He also had elbow ligament replacement surgery in 2001 and has had biceps tendon and hamstring problems.

Colorado signed Tsao for US$2.2 million in 1999. He was 4-3 with a 5.80 ERA and four saves for the Rockies from 2003-05.

Tsao had a 29-20 record and 2.74 ERA in the US minor leagues, walking 93 and striking out 431 in 371 innings.

He pitched for Taiwan in the 2004 Olympics.
