Hurricanes flatten Mighty Ducks

Ray Whitney had a goal and two assists and Rod Brind'Amour contributed a goal and an assist in Carolina's 4-2 victory over Anaheim on Friday night.

Justin Williams also had a goal and an assist for the Hurricanes, who bounced back from a loss at Buffalo on Thursday night to win for the sixth time in seven games.

Cam Ward made 25 saves and Erik Cole scored an empty-netter in the final minute to seal it in a matchup of the defending Stanley Cup champions and the NHL's top team.

Teemu Selanne scored a pair of quick goals early in the second for the Ducks, who have lost three of their last six games.

Senators 1, Rangers 0

At Ottawa, Ray Emery made 27 saves for his second straight shutout, Daniel Alfredsson scored in the first minute and Ottawa extended New York's losing streak to seven games.

The Rangers were shut out for the second straight game. The losing streak is their longest since an eight-game skid in the wake of the 2004 trading deadline.

Alfredsson gave Ottawa a sudden lead when he tipped Chris Phillips' shot past Henrik Lundqvist at 32 seconds.

Penguins 4, Maple Leafs 1

At Pittsburgh, Sergei Gonchar scored the go-ahead goal and set up another by Evgeni Malkin and Pittsburgh scored three power-play goals, ending a five-game losing streak by beating penalty-prone Toronto.

Sidney Crosby ended a two-game scoreless streak by assisting on three goals, giving him an NHL-leading 58 points in 34 games and 26 points this month. Erik Christensen and Jordan Staal also scored for Pittsburgh. Mats Sundin scored for Toronto.

Devils 4, Capitals 3

At East Rutherford, New Jersey, Scott Gomez had two goals and an assist to help New Jersey beat Washington for the sixth straight game.

Sergei Brylin also scored, Patrik Elias had a goal and two assists and Martin Brodeur made 32 saves for New Jersey.

Panthers 3, Canadiens 1

At Sunrise, Florida, Ed Belfour made 32 saves and Nathan Horton scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period for Florida.

Gregory Campbell and Ville Peltonen also scored for Florida in front of a BankAtlantic Center hockey-record crowd of 19,772. Mark Streit scored for Montreal.

Stars 4, Predators 1

At Dallas, Antti Miettinen scored a career-high two goals, both on power plays, and Jere Lehtinen scored the go-ahead goal on a power play for Dallas.

Marty Turco made 19 saves, and Patrik Stefan added an empty-net goal with 36 seconds left for the Stars, who've won five of their last seven games.

Wild 4, Blue Jackets 3, OT

At St. Paul, Minnesota, Wes Walz scored a controversial goal that came 1:29 into overtime to give the Minnesota Wild a 4-3 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night.

Martin Skoula's centering attempt deflected off Walz, who was being checked into the net by Jason Chimera. The goal was reviewed for about 5 minutes.

Bruins 5, Blackhawks 3

At Chicago, Glen Murray, Mark Mowers, Milan Jurcina, Patrice Bergeron and Marc Savard scored for Boston, who are 4-0-1 in their last five games and 5-1-1 in their last seven.

Boston's Tim Thomas stopped 37 shots. He lost a bid for his second shutout this season -- and second in four games -- when Chicago's James Wisniewski scored 1:35 into the third.

Bryan Smolinski and Denis Arkhipov also for the Blackhawks.

Blues 4, Avalanche 2

At Denver, Martin Rucinsky scored two goals and St. Louis goalie Manny Legace made 30 saves to beat Colorado for the eighth straight time.

Keith Tkachuk and Bill Guerin also scored for the Blues. Joe Sakic and Wojtek Wolski scored for the Avalanche.

Flames 6, Kings 4

At Calgary, Alberta, Jarome Iginla scored his 21st goal of the season and added three assists to help Calgary snap a three-game losing streak.

Dion Phaneuf and Alex Tanguay also scored for Calgary. Lubomir Visnovsky scored twice for Los Angeles and Craig Conroy and Alexander Frolov added goals.
