Everton increased West Ham's relegation worries on Sunday after beating the east London team 2-0 in the English Premier League.

Leon Osman scored the first goal in the 51st minute, intercepting a headed clearance from Jonathan Spector and chesting it down before scoring in the top corner. James Vaughan made it 2-0 in injury time, scoring after running on to a pass from Lee Carsley.

"For us that is an unbelievable result," Everton manager David Moyes said. "Big credit to all the lads. We had people playing out of position and that epitomizes the spirit we have here. There was a great deal of desire to keep going."

Everton was without defender Phil Neville and midfielder Mikel Arteta, who were injured in training, and midfielder Simon Davies. Several other players, including midfielder Tim Cahill, were also injured.

West Ham dominated the first half, but Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard made two saves from shots by striker Carlos Tevez.

The Argentine also set up attempts for Lee Bowyer and Hayden Mullins.

Tevez started despite storming out of West Ham's last game -- a 1-0 victory over Sheffield United last Saturday -- after being substituted.

"His performance today was the highlight for us," West Ham manager Alan Pardew said. "You can't fault the application or effort, but when you don't get anything away it puts pressure on at home."

Everton striker Andrew Johnson had the host team's best first-half chance, but it was saved by West Ham goalkeeper Robert Green.

Everton moved up two places to seventh and has 24 points. West Ham remains without an away win and is 17th with 14 points, two points clear of the relegation zone.

Manchester United leads the league with 41 points after a 2-1 win at Middlesbrough on Saturday.

Chelsea, in second with 35 points, didn't play this weekend because scheduled opponent Newcastle played in the UEFA Cup on Thursday and the Blues have a Champions League game today.
