Maxim Afinogenov had a goal and two assists, and Thomas Vanek added a goal and an assist to help Buffalo Sabres remain unbeaten and set a franchise record with its 12th consecutive victory, 5-4 over Carolina on Friday night.
The Sabres, who are off to a 7-0 start this season, surpassed the 11-game winning streak that began at the end of the 1974-75 season. They are one game from matching their best start ever, set in 1975.
Buffalo hasn't lost a regular-season game since April 7, against Philadelphia.

Vanek scored with 6.5 minutes to go to give Buffalo a 4-3 lead. Jaroslav Spacek made it 5-3 nearly 2 minutes later.
Jason Pominville and Dmitri Kalinin also scored for the Sabres.
Scott Walker, Eric Staal, Eric Belanger and Mike Commodore had goals for the Hurricanes, who had their three-game winning streak stopped.
Stars 5, Blackhawks 4
At Dallas, Philippe Boucher scored with 39 seconds left in regulation and the Stars rallied from a two-goal deficit in the third period against Chicago to match the best start in franchise history at 6-1.
Mike Ribeiro tied it at 4 with 1:14 remaining from the slot off Niklas Hagman's centering pass. The 1996-97 Stars also won six of their first seven games.
Martin Lapointe had given the Blackhawks a 4-3 lead with 4:31 left, but the Stars came back to continue their dominance over Chicago, improving to 13-0-1 in the teams' last 14 meetings.
Mike Modano, Jere Lehtinen and Antti Miettinen also scored for Dallas. Rene Bourque, Michael Holmquist and Lasse Kukkonen added goals for Chicago.
Panthers 3, Flyers 2
At Sunrise, Florida, Olli Jokinen scored the winning goal late in the second period and Florida handed Philadelphia its fifth straight loss.
Ed Belfour had 25 saves for the Panthers, who started the season 4-0 at home for the first time since 1995-96, when they made it to the Stanley Cup finals.
Jozef Stumpel and Juraj Kolnik also scored for Florida.
Simon Gagne had two goals for the Flyers, who last lost five straight from March 28-April 4, 2002. Antero Niittymaki stopped 23 shots for Philadelphia.
Maple Leafs 4, Blue Jackets 2
At Columbus, Ohio, Kyle Wellwood and Michael Peca, playing in his 700th career game, scored 34 seconds apart to lead Toronto.
Bryan McCabe and John Pohl also scored and Andrew Raycroft had 23 saves for Toronto, which had given up 14 goals in its last three games.
Manny Malhotra and Alexander Svitov scored for the Blue Jackets, who had played only one game in the previous 10 days. The game was just the fifth this season for Columbus, the fewest in the NHL.
Wellwood, who also had an assist, scored in the second period to break a 1-1 tie, and Peca gave Toronto a two-goal lead less than a minute later.

At St. Louis, Sami Salo scored with less than a second left in overtime for Vancouver, which tied the game with 25 seconds left in regulation on a power-play goal by Markus Naslund.
The clock showed 0:00 after Salo scored and the Blues refused to leave the ice for about 2 minutes. The referees reviewed the goal, determining it came before time expired.
Taylor Pyatt also scored for Vancouver, which outshot St. Louis 39-19 overall and 6-3 in the overtime.

Ducks 2, Wild 1
At Anaheim, California, Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 27 saves and the Ducks beat Minnesota to end the Wild's season-opening winning streak at six games.
Scott Niedermayer and Sean O'Donnell scored second-period goals for the Ducks.
Pierre-Marc Bouchard had the Wild's lone score, closing the gap to 2-1 later in the second period.
