David Moyes has warned his Everton players that their stunning derby triumph over Liverpool will mean nothing if they fail to beat Wigan Athletic today.
Last weekend's 3-0 win over their local rivals stretched Everton's unbeaten start to four games and they could go top of the Premiership if they take three points at Goodison Park.
But the record books indicate that Everton have often come down with a bump from the euphoria induced by derby wins.
When Kevin Campbell's goal earned them a 1-0 win at Anfield in September 1999, Everton went nine matches without another victory. And eight games passed before they managed another success after beating Liverpool 2-0 in October 1997.
More recently under Moyes, they managed just one win in their next four outings after Lee Carsley clinched the derby points at Goodison Park in December 2004.
It is no surprise then that Moyes is demanding his side forget about the euphoria of last week when Wigan, managed by former Liverpool reserve player Paul Jewell, come to town.
"Well as we played last Saturday, but all we gained was three points," Moyes told the Liverpool Echo. "That was great but we have got to move on and maintain our concentration."
Moyes also admitted he is worried that his side could come to rely too much on ?8.5 million (US$16 million) summer signing, Andrew Johnson, who scored twice against Liverpool.
"What we need is goals throughout the team and we can't just be relying on Andy all the time," the Scot said.
