Tottenham let in an 89th-minute equalizer Sunday to draw 1-1 at Sunderland, missing a chance to move further clear of local rival Arsenal in the English Premier League standings.
In Sunday's other game, Joey Barton scored one goal and set up two more in Manchester City's 3-2 win against Charlton that moved it up to ninth.
Tottenham, which is chasing a first appearance in the Champions League, led through Robbie Keane's 38th-minute goal until a mistake by defender Paul Stalteri gave Daryl Murphy the chance to salvage a point.

Murphy cut inside Canada rightback Stalteri, who tried to shield the ball rather than pass back to the goalkeeper or kick it out of play. Murphy got around him and prodded the ball past England 'keeper Paul Robinson from a tight angle for his first club goal.
Jermaine Jenas had a chance to win it for Spurs in the third minute of injury time, but he fired over the bar after the ball had dropped to him 8m from goal.
"We have to learn and we have to grow up," Spurs manager Martin Jol said. "I think we did OK, but we should have killed them off. We didn't play well enough to score two or three goals but we did score one. If you don't kill them off they are always capable of scoring against you."
Sunderland manager Mick McCarthy said he thought his team deserved a point.
"I think justice was done with the result," McCarthy said. "The players have kept going for me all the time and they got their reward."
Tottenham is four points clear of fifth-place Arsenal, which tied 1-1 with Bolton on Saturday. Arsenal has played one game fewer and is at Liverpool on Tuesday. Third-place Liverpool, which won 1-0 at Wigan on Saturday, is three points further ahead.
Spurs are 21 points behind leader Chelsea, which lost 3-0 at Middlesbrough on Saturday -- its second league loss of the season.
Sunderland's 10th point of the season leaves it still 16 points away from safety and with eight to make up on next-to-last Portsmouth.
Goalkeeper Kelvin Davis had saved from Keane and Aaron Lennon before Spurs went ahead. Michael Carrick's through ball put Jermain Defoe clear down the right and the England striker crossed for Keane to tap in from 6m.
Sunderland could have leveled in the 62nd when Jon Stead broke down the left. His low cross eluded Robinson but Liam Lawrence was unable to make contact in front of an empty net.
Stuart Pearce came out on top against Alan Curbishley in a meeting of two managers being touted for the England job after Sven-Goran Eriksson steps down at the end of the World Cup.
Man City went ahead in the 22nd when Charlton's Bryan Hughes headed away Barton's right-wing cross, but the ball came to Richard Dunne who drove home a first-time shot from the edge of the area.
Charlton leveled when Darren Bent collected a through ball from Talal El Karkouri in the 50th and hit his 13th goal of the season.
City regained the lead three minutes later after Barton delivered another right-wing cross for Greek striker Georgios Samaras to head powerfully in from 10m.
It was 3-1 in the 62nd when Barton took the ball 30m out and let fly with a powerful shot that went in off the post.
Marcus Bent, no relation to Darren, headed in a cross for Charlton's second in the 66th, but City held on to climb two places in the standings. The Addicks remained 12th.
Chelsea's surprise loss at home to Middlesbrough allowed Manchester United to trim its lead to 12 points. The Red Devils posted a 3-1 victory at Portsmouth on Saturday.
Maciej Zurawski scored in Celtic's 1-0 win over Glasgow rival Rangers and give his team a 13-point lead atop the standings.
The Polish striker punished Rangers' slack defending in the 12th minute at Ibrox Park as Celtic posted its 20th Premier League victory of the season.
A shot from Stilian Petrov was blocked by Rangers defender Bob Malcolm, and Zurawski was left unmarked to shoot home from 15m.
With Hearts losing 2-1 at home to Aberdeen on Saturday, Celtic is almost certain to recapture the title it lost to Rangers last season.
Rangers remains in fourth place, 21 points behind its traditional rival. Manager Alex McLeish has already announced he will step down at the end of the season.
David Villa's 15th goal of the season earned Valencia a 1-0 win over leader FC Barcelona 1-0 and moved it within six points of the top of the league.
Villa injected new life into the title race by chipping home from outside the penalty area in the 44th minute after a mistake by goalkeeper Victor Valdes. He had attempted a pass to his captain Carles Puyol.
Valencia's win at its Mestalla stadium extended its unbeaten streak to 12 league games and confirmed Barcelona to a second straight defeat.
The defending champion, which lacked suspended Ronaldinho and injured Deco but had striker Samuel Eto'o back from the African Cup of Nations, was also recently eliminated from the Copa del Rey quarterfinals by Zaragoza.
"It's a shame we lost this way," Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard said. "Valencia always goes all out to take the lead and then pushes all its players back. Its system functions."
In another 23rd-round game, Celta Vigo beat Villarreal 1-0 to rise to fifth place.
Substitute Alessandro Del Piero scored the winner with a curling free kick in the 85th minute, and Juventus beat Inter Milan 2-1 to stretch its lead to 12 points atop the league.
With 13 matches left in the season, the Turin powerhouse has 66 points. Inter has 54 points to be equal second with AC Milan, which won 4-1 at Reggina to recover a six-point gap from Inter in four days.
Juventus coach Fabio Capello said his team played a perfect match.
"We could have been satisfied with a draw but we definitely played for victory," Capello said. "We deserved it. Now we have a big lead but we can't slow down. The title run is not yet over."
All the goals in this much-anticipated showdown at San Siro came in the second half after a lackluster first period.
Sweden international Zlatan Ibrahimovic put Juventus in the lead in the 63rd minute, outpacing two Inter defenders and tapping in from close range a low cross from Mauro Camoranesi.
Argentina defender Walter Samuel, who avoided a red card for an earlier foul on Ibrahimovic, equalized 11 minutes later with a powerful header off a corner kick.
Samuel received a yellow card as Juventus players called for his ejection.
Del Piero, coming on for the injured Ibrahimovic in the last 20 minutes, scored past Julio Cesar to earn Juventus its 21st -- and possibly decisive -- win in 25 matches.
It was the 190th career goal for Del Piero with Juventus, who he joined in 1993. This season he has scored eight goals, most of them winners and often after coming off the bench.
Inter, whose chances were hurt in the 35th when Argentina playmaker Juan Sebastian Veron had to abandon the match with an ankle injury, had a final chance in injury time.
The left-footed free kick by Alvaro Recoba hit the post and Nicolas Burdisso missed the rebound to the despair of the Inter fans who dominated the sold-out crowd of 79,000.
It was Inter's fifth loss of the season and the second straight after the 2-1 upset at Fiorentina last week.
Roy Makaay and Michael Ballack scored goals in either half and Bayern Munich beat FC Nuremberg 2-1 to move 10 points clear atop the league.
Makaay scored in the 27th minute, which was canceled out by Robert Vittek's 20m shot for Nuremberg nine minutes later in front of 63,000 at Allianz Arena.
Ballack hit the winner in the 54th, but Bayern needed goalkeeper Oliver Kahn to make late saves.
"We made it hard for ourselves," Makaay said. "Kahn had to do his thing in the end, but in this form he is unbeatable."
The 15th-placed Nuremberg has lost just one of six matches under new coach Hans Meyer.
"We played well within our limits," Meyer said. "But you can't relax or think you have the match under control against Bayern because they have too many good individual players."
Claudio Pizarro side-footed a quick pass to Makaay, who scored with a rising shot. Makaay turned provider for Ballack and the Germany captain netted inside the far post before his two markers reacted.
Makaay has scored 11 goals, while Ballack is the team's second leading scorer with nine in 15 games.
Bayern has won every home match since Allianz Arena opened this year. Its 17-1-3 record keeps it on course to break its own Bundesliga record of 78 season points in 1999.
In Sunday's other match, Cologne drew 0-0 at home with Borussia Dortmund to drop to last. The team hasn't won in 16 matches.
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Zdenek Grygera scored to give Ajax Amsterdam a 2-1 Dutch league win at Ado The Hague.

Feyenoord could only trim PSV Eindhoven's lead atop the standings to five points with a 3-3 draw against NAC Breda, which got late goals through Anouar Diba and Julian Jenner.
PSV has 60 points from 24 games after beating Heracles Almelo 1-0 on Saturday. Second-place AZ Alkmaar, which beat 10-man Sparta Rotterdam 1-0 on Friday, is tied with Feyenoord on 55, 15 more than fifth-place Ajax.
Huntelaar's 55th-minute goal earned Ajax its win after Michael Mols had canceled out Grygera's 30th-minute opener.
Feyenoord led 3-1 until Jenner scored in the 90th minute and Diba scored from close range in injury time.
In Sunday's other 24th-round games, FC Groningen won 2-1 to extend RBC Roosendaal's winless streak to 24 matches, and FC Utrecht drew 1-1 with visiting NEC Nijmegen.
Lille drew 0-0 with Paris Saint-Germain in the French first division and missed a chance to move to third, while Marseille stayed sixth by drawing 0-0 with Toulouse.
Lyon, which is chasing a record fifth straight title, leads with 56 points, seven ahead of Bordeaux which has played an extra match.
On Saturday, Bordeaux defeated Rennes 2-0, while Lyon drew 1-1 with Lens to remain unbeaten in away games this season.
Fourth-place Lille had the best chances -- forward Matt Moussilou struck the post from close range in the 59th minute, and Geoffrey Dernis hit a free kick onto the crossbar in the 67th.
Marseille dominated possession, but Toulouse launched a counterattack in the third minute of stoppage time that required Barthez to block Bryan Bergougnoux's shot.
David Nielsen's 48th-minute header saw Danish club Midtjylland beat Valerenga 1-0 and qualify for the quarterfinals.
With the last round being played Wednesday, Midtjylland has 11 points, three more than Hammarby of Stockholm, which beat Norway's Start 4-0, in Group 1. Valerenga has five points and Start two.

Revelations of positive doping tests for nearly two dozen Chinese swimmers that went unpunished sparked an intense flurry of accusations and legal threats between the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the head of the US drug-fighting organization, who has long been one of WADA’s fiercest critics. WADA on Saturday said it was turning to legal counsel to address a statement released by US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) CEO Travis Tygart, who said WADA and anti-doping authorities in China swept positive tests “under the carpet by failing to fairly and evenly follow the global rules that apply to everyone else in the world.” The
Taiwanese judoka Yang Yung-wei on Saturday won silver in the men’s under-60kg category at the Asian Judo Championships in Hong Kong. Nicknamed the “judo heartthrob” in Taiwan, the Olympic silver-medalist missed out on his first Asian Championships gold when he lost to Japanese judoka Taiki Nakamura in the finals. Yang defeated three opponents on Saturday to reach the final after receiving a bye through the round of 32. He first topped Laotian Soukphaxay Sithisane in the round of 16 with two seoi nage (over-the-shoulder throws), then ousted Indian Vijay Kumar Yadav in the quarter-finals with his signature ude hishigi sankaku gatame (triangular armlock). He
RALLY: It was only the second time the Taiwanese has partnered with Kudermetova, and the match seemed tight until they won seven points in a row to take the last set 10-2 Taiwan’s Chan Hao-ching and Russia’s Veronika Kudermetova on Sunday won the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix women’s doubles final in Stuttgart, Germany. The pair defeated Norway’s Ulrikke Eikeri and Estonia’s Ingrid Neel 4-6, 6-3, 10-2 in a tightly contested match at the WTA 500 tournament. Taiwanese gymnast Lee Chih-kai failed to secure an Olympic berth in the pommel horse following a second-place finish at the last qualifier in Doha on Friday, a performance that Lee and his coach called “unconvincing.” The Tokyo Olympics silver medalist finished runner-up in the final after scoring 6.6 for degree of difficulty and 8.800 for execution for a combined score of 15.400. That was just 0.100 short of Jordan’s Ahmad Abu Al Soud, who had qualified for the event in Paris before the Apparatus World Cup series in Qatar’s capital. After missing the final rounds in the first two of four qualifier
