Peja Stojakovic had 26 points and 13 rebounds in his home debut, and the Indiana Pacers beat the Los Angeles Lakers 105-79 in the NBA on Wednesday to snap a six-game losing streak.
Stojakovic, acquired from Sacramento in last week's trade for Ron Artest, was 9-of-19 from the field, including 5-of-11 on 3-pointers.
The Pacers held Kobe Bryant to 26 points, 10 below his average. Bryant, the league's leading scorer, had 45 points against the Pacers in a Los Angeles win on Jan. 9, but shot 8-for-24 on Wednesday.
Fred Jones scored 16 points, Jeff Foster had 15 points and 13 rebounds, and Danny Granger added 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Pacers.
Brian Cook scored 12 points and Lamar Odom and Chris Mihm each added 10 for the Lakers.
Indiana guard Stephen Jackson went down hard on a drive to the hoop late in the second quarter. He was taken to a nearby hospital and did not return.
Cavaliers 91, Nets 85
At Cleveland, LeBron James capped his seventh career triple-double when he rushed Jason Kidd into a miss and grabbed the rebound in the final minute as Cleveland won its seventh straight.
James scored 26 points -- 22 in the second half -- and added 11 rebounds and 10 assists as the Cavaliers held off cold-shooting New Jersey, which snapped Detroit's 11-game winning streak on Tuesday.
But James, who averaged 32.8 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.5 assists in January, began February with his third triple-double this season and helped Cleveland end a five-game skid against New Jersey.
Pistons 90, Timberwolves 74
At Auburn Hills, Michigan, Richard Hamilton scored 21 points and Tayshaun Prince added 20 as Detroit avoided its first losing streak of the season by beating Minnesota.
The Pistons (38-6) had an 11-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday in New Jersey, but rebounded to beat Minnesota for the second time in eight days. Detroit, coached by former Timberwolves boss Flip Saunders, won the games by an average of 20 points.
Ben Wallace was scoreless but had 17 rebounds for Detroit.
Suns 102, Celtics 94
At Boston, Shawn Marion scored 21 points, and Phoenix overcame Paul Pierce's 33-point second half to end its six-game road trip with a win.
Pierce finished with 40 points and led the Celtics' comeback from a 59-38 halftime deficit to 80-78 with 9:06 left in the game. But they never caught up after failing to score in the last 2:42.
The Celtics lost their third consecutive game and are 1-3 since obtaining Wally Szczerbiak from Minnesota.
Seven Suns scored in double figures, with Raja Bell scoring 18 points and Steve Nash getting 13 points with eight assists. Marion led all rebounders with 12.
Clippers 106, Magic 94
At Orlando, Florida, Elton Brand had 35 points and nine rebounds, and Sam Cassell added 26 points as Los Angeles beat Orlando.
Brand, the reigning Western Conference player of the week, hit 12 of 22 shots against a variety of Magic defenders. He and Cassell took turns turning back every Magic rally and put away the game early in the fourth quarter.
Steve Francis led Orlando with 21 points, but the Magic have now lost three straight after winning a season-high five in a row. Dwight Howard had 15 points and 15 rebounds and Hedo Turkoglu added 15 points and seven rebounds.
Raptors 117, Wizards 112
At Toronto, Chris Bosh had 33 points and 13 rebounds, Mike James made two 3-pointers in the final minute, and Toronto held off Washington.
Toronto led by as many as 18 in the fourth quarter, but Gilbert Arenas' 3-pointer cut the lead to one with 1:25 left. James, who had 29 points, followed with consecutive 3-pointers to give Toronto a 115-110 lead with 24 seconds remaining.
Arenas scored 35 points for the Wizards, who looked tired after beating Indiana the night before.
Attendance was just 13,640, the worst crowd in franchise history.
Hawks 102, Bobcats 92
At Charlotte, North Carolina, Al Harrington scored 19 points to lead Atlanta over Charlotte, extending the Bobcats' franchise-record losing streak to 13 games.
The game was a battle between the worst two teams in the league. The Bobcats began the night with a 4-1 all-time record against the Hawks -- the only team in the Eastern Conference the Bobcats have a winning record against.
But with stars Emeka Okafor and Gerald Wallace on their ridiculously long injured list, the Bobcats never really had a chance.
Mavericks 81, Grizzlies 80
At Memphis, Tennessee, Dirk Nowitzki made two free throws with 7.2 seconds left, his only points of the fourth quarter, and Dallas overcame a 10-point deficit to beat Memphis for its 10th straight win.
Mike Miller's drive with 3 seconds left bounced off the side rim, sending Memphis to its third loss in four games.
Jazz 103, Nuggets 90
At Salt Lake City, Andrei Kirilenko had 21 points, five blocks and five assists, and Utah extended first-place Denver's losing streak to four.
Mehmet Okur had 28 points and 11 rebounds and Milt Palacio added 12 points and seven assists for the Jazz, who ended a three-game losing streak and cut into the Nuggets' slight lead in the Northwest Division.
Rockets 86, Bucks 84
At Houston, Tracy McGrady scored 22 points, Yao Ming added 21 and Houston overcame an early 13-point deficit to beat Milwaukee.
Yao, in his second game back after missing 21 games due to surgery on his left big toe, also had 13 rebounds for his 11th double-double of the season. Bobby Simmons hit a career-high five 3-pointers and led the Bucks with 26 points, matching his season high.
Hornets 100, Bulls 95
At Oklahoma City, Chris Paul scored 11 of his 25 points in the final 5 minutes, leading New Orleans over Chicago.
The Hornets lost a 17-point third-quarter lead but were rescued by Paul, who also had 13 assists and showed why earlier in the day he was named the Western Conference rookie of the month for the third straight time.
SuperSonics 111, Warriors 107
At Seattle, Ray Allen scored 32 points and Rashard Lewis added 26, leading Seattle to a comeback victory over Golden State.
The Warriors shot only 2-for-21 in the third quarter -- getting baskets by Derek Fisher and Baron Davis -- and Golden State had a season-low nine points in the period to fall behind 85-71. The Sonics had runs of 12-0 and 10-0 in the quarter.
Spurs 86, Trail Blazers 82
At Portland, Oregon, Tim Duncan had 14 points and 17 rebounds, and San Antonio won its fifth straight by beating Portland.
Manu Ginobili had 22 points and Tony Parker added 20 for the Spurs, who have won nine of their last 10 games.
The Spurs, on their Rodeo Trip that puts them on the road every February when the rodeo comes to the AT&T Center, beat Utah 79-70 on Monday. It was the first game of the eight-game trip.
Revelations of positive doping tests for nearly two dozen Chinese swimmers that went unpunished sparked an intense flurry of accusations and legal threats between the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the head of the US drug-fighting organization, who has long been one of WADA’s fiercest critics. WADA on Saturday said it was turning to legal counsel to address a statement released by US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) CEO Travis Tygart, who said WADA and anti-doping authorities in China swept positive tests “under the carpet by failing to fairly and evenly follow the global rules that apply to everyone else in the world.” The
Taiwanese judoka Yang Yung-wei on Saturday won silver in the men’s under-60kg category at the Asian Judo Championships in Hong Kong. Nicknamed the “judo heartthrob” in Taiwan, the Olympic silver-medalist missed out on his first Asian Championships gold when he lost to Japanese judoka Taiki Nakamura in the finals. Yang defeated three opponents on Saturday to reach the final after receiving a bye through the round of 32. He first topped Laotian Soukphaxay Sithisane in the round of 16 with two seoi nage (over-the-shoulder throws), then ousted Indian Vijay Kumar Yadav in the quarter-finals with his signature ude hishigi sankaku gatame (triangular armlock). Taiwanese gymnast Lee Chih-kai failed to secure an Olympic berth in the pommel horse following a second-place finish at the last qualifier in Doha on Friday, a performance that Lee and his coach called “unconvincing.” The Tokyo Olympics silver medalist finished runner-up in the final after scoring 6.6 for degree of difficulty and 8.800 for execution for a combined score of 15.400. That was just 0.100 short of Jordan’s Ahmad Abu Al Soud, who had qualified for the event in Paris before the Apparatus World Cup series in Qatar’s capital. After missing the final rounds in the first two of four qualifier
