Miguel Olivo tripled and Mark Loretta doubled in a three-run sixth inning and San Diego beat Florida 4-2 on Tuesday night.
Brian Lawrence (7-12) allowed six hits and a run in five innings for San Diego, escaping a two-on, no-out jam in his last inning.
"There's no relaxing with their lineup," Lawrence said. "I was glad we were able to take it to a win."
The Padres trailed 1-0 when Brian Giles walked to lead off the sixth. He advanced to third on Loretta's double and scored on Xavier Nady's groundout. Olivo tripled to center to drive in Loretta and make it 2-1. Olivo scored on pinch-hitter Mark Sweeney's single.
Lawrence got out of the jam by striking out Carlos Delgado and then getting Juan Encarnacion on a groundout and Paul Lo Duca on a pop up.
Trevor Hoffman earned his 31st save to tie John Franco for second on the career list with 424. Hoffman gave up an RBI double to pinch-hitter Jeff Conine in the ninth.
"I think it is congratulations this time -- anytime you have an opportunity to share a record with John Franco," Hoffman said. "He's a guy that I respect."
Justin Vargas (3-1) allowed three runs and four hits in 5 1-3 innings, striking out a career-high seven.
Mets 6, Pirates 2
At New York, Kris Benson recovered from a shaky start and hit a two-run single against his former team, pitching New York to a victory over Pittsburgh.
Cliff Floyd hit his 27th homer for the Mets, who hung right fielder Mike Cameron's jersey in their dugout during the game. Cameron is recovering from facial surgery after a head-to-head collision with teammate Carlos Beltran in San Diego last week.
Benson (9-4) gave up two early runs and five hits in the first three innings. His two-run single in the second keyed a four-run rally against Mark Redman (5-13), who lost for the ninth time in 10 decisions. Benson allowed seven hits in seven innings for his second consecutive win.
Cardinals 8, Diamondbacks 2
At St. Louis, So Taguchi matched career highs with four hits and three RBIs, and Jeff Suppan pitched seven strong innings to win for the third time in four starts for St. Louis.
Jim Edmonds had two run-scoring singles and Albert Pujols had two hits and an RBI to help the Cardinals beat the Diamondbacks for the 11th time in 13 games over the last three seasons.
Luis Gonzalez hit a two-run homer for Arizona, a season-worst eight games below .500.
Suppan (12-8) allowed five hits, walked none and matched his season best with seven strikeouts.
Taguchi, playing regularly because of injuries to outfielders Larry Walker and Reggie Sanders, had his second career four-hit game. He has six three-RBI games, five this season, and is batting .424 (25-for-59) with runners in scoring position.
Brad Halsey (8-9) lasted 5 1-3 innings and gave up five runs, four earned, and nine hits.
Giants 10, Reds 8
At Cincinnati, Deivi Cruz and Pedro Feliz set career highs with five hits, and San Francisco came from behind to overpower Cincinnati.
Cruz fell a triple short of the cycle and tied a career high with five RBIs, while Feliz scored four runs and was a home run shy of the cycle. San Francisco's Randy Winn hit for the cycle in Monday night's victory.
San Francisco overcame two two-run homers by former Giant Rich Aurilia and a ninth-inning solo shot by Ken Griffey Jr.
Feliz led off the seventh with his fourth hit, a triple to center field, off Jason Standridge (2-1) and scored on Edgardo Alfonzo's bloop single down the right-field line to give San Francisco an 8-7 lead.
