Hull City apologizes for fans' taunting of London visitors

AP , HULL, ENGLAND

The chairman of Hull City soccer club apologized on Monday after fans taunted Queens Park Rangers (QPR) supporters with chants about last month's terrorist bombings in London.

"On behalf of the club I would like to unreservedly apologize to all Queens Park Rangers supporters who were subjected to this unbelievably ignorant and distressing chant," Adam Pearson said.

"The group of youths who were involved with this chant will be identified and will be dealt with in the most swingeing [harshest] manner possible," he said.

The chanting took place during Saturday's scoreless draw at the KC Stadium on the opening day of the League Championship season. Both teams are in the division just below the Premier League, and QPR is based in London.

According to newspaper reports, some Hull fans chanted, "You're just a town full of bombers" and "Too many lived and not enough died."

Some QPR fans walked out in disgust. Others tried to tear down a fence outside the stadium separating the two sets of supporters, forcing police to step in.
