Gregg Zaun hit a three-run homer in a five-run sixth inning, and the Toronto Blue Jays completed a three-game sweep of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays with a 7-4 victory on Thursday.
"I'm pretty happy with where this team is sitting at this point, especially with the difficulty of the schedule we've had early on," Zaun said.
Tampa Bay tied a season-high with its four straight loss and dropped to 1-7 on the road. Toronto outscored the Devil Rays 23-11 in the series and swept them at home for the first time since July last year.
"You know what I'd like to see? Some wins. I think everybody would like to see that," Tampa Bay manager Lou Piniella said.
Toronto starter Josh Towers (2-1) settled down after allowing three runs in the first and wound up giving up three runs and seven hits in 6 2-3 innings with six strikeouts and no walks.
Doug Waechter (0-1) gave up four runs and eight hits in 5 1-3 innings.
Twins 6, Royals 5, 11 innings
At Kansas City, Missouri, Lew Ford singled home the go-ahead run off Mike Wood in the 11th to win for Minnesota, and complete the first 0-6 homestand in Royals history.
Kansas City lost its eighth in a row and its major league-worst record dipped to 5-17, including 2-12 at home. After being swept three games each by the Chicago White Sox and the Twins, the Royals go on a 12-game trip.
Wood (0-2) walked pinch-hitter Joe Mauer leading off the 11th and Nick Punto sacrificed. Shannon Stewart was intentionally walked, Jason Bartlett struck out, and Ford singled into left, just over the glove of third baseman Joe McEwing.
Jesse Crain (1-0), Minnesota's sixth pitcher, allowed one hit and one walk in two innings. Justin Morneau had a career-high four hits and two RBIs.
Angels 3, Yankees 1
In New York, John Lackey combined with four relievers to shut down New York, and the Los Angeles Angels got RBI singles from Vladimir Guerrero and Darin Erstad.
The Angels took two of three at Yankee Stadium, assuring New York (9-13) of its first losing month since it was 11-17 in May 2003.
Lackey (2-1) lasted only 5 1-3 innings because he threw 111 pitches, but he was effective. He gave up only Hideki Matsui's RBI double, then turned it over to Los Angeles' outstanding bullpen.
Jake Woods, Brendan Donnelly and Scot Shields combined for 2 2-3 scoreless innings before Francisco Rodriguez got three outs for his fifth save in six chances.
Kevin Brown (0-3) lost his sixth straight start dating to last season -- but he was New York's lone bright spot. He allowed three runs and eight hits in seven innings, retiring his final 11 batters.
Mariners 4, Rangers 1
In Arlington, Texas, Ichiro Suzuki and Richie Sexson hit solo home runs, and Gil Meche pitched into the eighth inning for Seattle.
Suzuki pulled a pitch from Chris Young (2-2) into the right-field stands in the eighth for his second homer of the season to break a 1-1 tie. Nine of Suzuki's 39 career homers have come against the Rangers.
Meche (2-1) pitched 7 2-3 innings and allowed just four hits, three for extra bases. He struck out three and walked one.
Eddie Guardado worked the ninth for his seventh save in eight chances.
Tigers 3, Indians 2
In Cleveland, Mike Maroth tied a career high with eight strikeouts in six innings, leading Detroit over Cleveland for its fourth straight win.
Maroth (2-1) gave up solo homers to Casey Blake and Jhonny Peralta in the fifth inning, but allowed just four hits overall.
The Tigers scored three runs in the first off Kevin Millwood (0-3). Ivan Rodriguez had an RBI single, Dmitri Young had a run-scoring groundout and Craig Monroe hit a sacrifice fly.
Kyle Farnsworth, Ugueth Urbina and Troy Percival combined to allow three hits over the final three innings with Percival working the ninth for his second save.
