    Tom Boonen wins Stage 2
Tom Boonen of Belgium won Tuesday's shortened second stage of the Paris-Nice cycling race, with six-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong finishing in the chasing pack. Boonen, a Quick Step rider who also won the first stage, repeated that success in the 46km ride from Aigueperse to Thiers to win in 53 minutes, 31 seconds and take the overall lead. Race organizers shortened the stage because of heavy overnight snowfall, eliminating five of six planned climbs. The original route had been a 191km ride to Thiers from La Chatre.

    Riddick Bowe set to fight
Former heavyweight boxing champion Riddick Bowe is tentatively scheduled to fight on March 25, in what would be his second bout since coming back from an eight-year retirement from the ring. The organization that licenses professional boxing in the state said Tuesday that Bowe's fight against Willie Chapman won't become official until important paperwork is completed. "There's a series of things we've got to go through before we approve that fight," said Richard Weinsoft, director of the Pete Suazo Utah Athletic Commission, formerly the Utah Boxing Commission. The 38-year-old Bowe (41-1, 33 knockouts) last fought in September, knocking out Marcus Rhode in the second round. An injury forced Bowe to withdraw from a match in November.

    Shevchenko still healing
AC Milan striker Andriy Shevchenko, who fractured his cheekbone during a an Italian league match last month, said Tuesday that he could return to the field in about two weeks. "Doctors told me that I can play again in two weeks, possibly without wearing a protective mask," the Ukraine player told television interviewers after watching Milan's victory over Manchester United at San Siro which qualified the Italian side for the Champions League quarterfinals. "Sheva," who missed both matches with United, was expected to be fit for Milan's quarterfinal matches in April. Shevchenko has scored 14 goals in the Serie A this season.
