Jeff Garcia got the Cleveland Browns into the end zone and helped them to a preseason victory they really wanted.
After failing to score a touchdown in their exhibition opener last week, Lee Suggs ran in untouched for two scores and the Browns beat the Detroit Lions 17-10 on Saturday.
Garcia led the much-improved offense, going 5-for-7 for 55 yards, including a 25-yard completion to Kellen Winslow Jr. on third and 13. Suggs scored from 8 yards out on the next play to make it 7-7.
One of the few bright spots for Detroit was running back Kevin Jones, who gained 29 yards on six carries in his first action this preseason.
Lions quarterback Joey Harrington went 5-for-12 for 45 yards and a touchdown to Charles Rogers.

Brunell played four series and led TD drives of 63 and 43 yards to help the Redskins (2-1) take a 14-0 halftime lead.
Incumbent Patrick Ramsey led Washington to a score for the first time this preseason, directing a 14-play, 68-yard drive that ended with a field goal to start the second half .
A.J. Feeley, seeking to supplant Jay Fiedler as the Dolphins' quarterback, led Miami to three first downs before the opening series ended with a fumble by receiver Chris Chambers. The Dolphins, plagued with bad field position, went three-and-out on their next three possessions before Fiedler took over.
For Washington, Clinton Portis and Rock Cartwright scored on 1-yard runs, and Ola Kimrin kicked a 26-yard field goal.

Indiana Cincinnati, Carson Palmer passed for three touchdowns and set up another with a 48-yard completion to Chad Johnson as Cincinnati scored on its first three possessions and beat New England.

Palmer played only the first half of the preseason game and was 12-of-19 for 179 yards.
Tom Brady, New England's two-time Super Bowl MVP, also played a half and was 8-of-13 for 126 yards, with one interception.
Palmer led the Bengals (1-1) to three quick touchdowns before New England's initial first down.
Rudi Johnson, who rushed 16 times for 76 yards, scored from the 1 to cap a five-play, 69-yard drive that included the long pass to Chad Johnson on the second play of the game.

Revelations of positive doping tests for nearly two dozen Chinese swimmers that went unpunished sparked an intense flurry of accusations and legal threats between the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the head of the US drug-fighting organization, who has long been one of WADA’s fiercest critics. WADA on Saturday said it was turning to legal counsel to address a statement released by US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) CEO Travis Tygart, who said WADA and anti-doping authorities in China swept positive tests “under the carpet by failing to fairly and evenly follow the global rules that apply to everyone else in the world.” The

Taiwanese gymnast Lee Chih-kai failed to secure an Olympic berth in the pommel horse following a second-place finish at the last qualifier in Doha on Friday, a performance that Lee and his coach called “unconvincing.” The Tokyo Olympics silver medalist finished runner-up in the final after scoring 6.6 for degree of difficulty and 8.800 for execution for a combined score of 15.400.
