Lighting strikes to maroon Islanders

Tampa Bay needed a third-period strike from Cory Stillman to edge New York, while the Bruins beat the Capitals to extended their regulation unbeaten streak

Cory Stillman scored his 10th goal of the season in the third period to help lift the Tampa Bay Lightning over the New York Islanders 3-2 on Thursday night.
Stillman's goal from the left circle gave Tampa Bay a 3-0 lead 4:27 into the third. Fredrik Modin and Brad Richards had the other Tampa Bay goals.
Arron Asham and Mark Parrish scored for the Islanders. Asham brought the Islanders within 3-1 at 14:19 of the third, and Parrish made it a one-goal game with 1:24 left.
Tampa Bay (10-2-2-1) is 9-0-1 when scoring first.
Bruins 3, Capitals 2
In Boston, Mike Knuble had a goal and an assist, and Boston stretched its streak without a regulation loss to 11 games.
The Bruins, who have won four straight at home, have earned at least one point in every game since they lost to Carolina on Oct. 23 (7-0-1-3).
Washington (5-13-1) is tied with Pittsburgh with an NHL-low 11 points.
Martin Lapointe and Glen Murray also scored for Boston (11-2-3-3).
Jaromir Jagr and Sergei Gonchar had the Capitals goals. Robert Lang helped set up Gonchar's goal to extend his point streak to 10 games. He has 16 points in that span.
Boston is 4-0-1 in their last five games against the Capitals, who have dropped five of seven overall.
Senators 6, Hurricanes 1
In Ottawa, Marian Hossa had a goal and an assist, and Ottawa scored five times in the second period en route to a victory over Carolina.
Hossa, who leads the Senators with 10 goals and 20 points, assisted on Vaclav Varada's tying goal with 9.6 seconds left in the first. It was Ottawa's first even-strength goal in four games.
Jason Spezza, Radek Bonk, Peter Schaefer, Todd White and Hossa scored in the second as the Senators outshot Carolina 17-4 in the period.
Radim Vrbata scored his first goal in nine games for Carolina.
Blue Jackets 3, Red Wings 0
In Columbus, Ohio, Dan Fritsche became the first Ohio native to score a goal for Columbus, which split a home-and-home series with Detroit.
Marc Denis stopped 25 shots for his second shutout of the season and 11th of his career.
The 18-year-old Fritsche's wrister early in the third period was his first NHL goal. The Parma, Ohio, native was a second-round pick in this year's draft.
Rick Nash and Andrew Cassels added goals for the Blue Jackets, who were beaten 5-1 by the Red Wings on Wednesday in Detroit.
The Wings, who fell to 14-3-1 in the series, won the previous two meetings this season by a combined 9-2 score.
Flyers 3, Wild 1
In Philadelphia, Mark Recchi had two power-play goals and an assist, helping Philadelphia extend its unbeaten streak to eight games.
Alexandre Daigle scored against his former team for the Wild, who shut out the Flyers in consecutive games last February.
Tony Amonte added a goal and assist, and Jeremy Roenick had two assists for Philadelphia. The line of Roenick, Recchi and Amonte has 51 points in 15 games since they were united four games into the season.
Robert Esche stopped 21 shots to record his career-best sixth straight victory.
Flames 2, Canadiens 1
In Calgary, Alberta, Martin Gelinas scored with 1:14 left, and Miikka Kiprusoff earned his first win to lead Calgary over Montreal.
Gelinas scored off a rebound of a slap shot by Jordan Leopold, beating Montreal goaltender Jose Theodore.
