Husband shackles wife to prevent her from gambling

A desperate husband in Kaohsiung attempted to prevent his wife from gambling by putting her in shackles before going to work, local media reported yesterday.

Still chained up at the hands and feet, the 58-year-old woman hobbled to the nearest police station and accused her husband of curbing her freedom, according to the local media reports.

Her husband later said he had resorted to such drastic means because his wife had gambled away more than NT$3.3 million and he couldn't think of any other way of controlling her gambling addiction.

The couple have now filed for divorce.
