Police arrested four young men in Kaohsiung and Penghu yesterday for the robbery and mutilation of a woman last week.
Wang Shu-fang (王淑芳) was attacked by two young men on a Kaohsiung street on the night of May 4, shortly after she left the house of a close friend, identified only by his surname of Tsai (蔡).
One of the men cut off Wang's left hand and three of the fingers on her right hand before fleeing with her wallet.
One of the assailants, identified only as Lin (林), surrendered to Kaohsiung police early yesterday morning. Soon afterwards, police arrested the other assailant, also surnamed Lin, in Penghu.
A police investigation later brought to light evidence that Tsai's two young sons had plotted the robbery against Wang because they suspected that Wang was having an affair with their father.
Police summoned Tsai's two sons yesterday for questioning, during which they both admitted to plotting the robbery.
Tsai and his two sons sent the injured Wang to hospital on May 4 after she ran back to their house calling for help.
The two robbers said they met with the Tsai brothers at a billiard parlor earlier that same day. A deal to rob Wang was reached only three hours after they got to know each other.
Wang denied she was having an affair with the young men's father.
