The KMT's reform committee reached an initial agreement yesterday to split the party's central headquarters into three major groups, local media reported yesterday.
The party has decided to form a policy committee (政策會), an electoral committee (選務會) and a general affairs committee (總務會).
The policy committee will take charge of caucuses at all levels, as well as policy research. The electoral committee, which includes promotion, organization and social departments, will take over all election-related affairs, while the general affairs committee, which includes financial and secretarial departments, will take over party administrative affairs.
Three chief executives, who will be directly responsible to the party's chairman, will be assigned to head the committees.
The arrangement could well lead to the abolition of the party's general-secretary, reports said.
The KMT currently has more than 10 departments which are reported to be merged into one chamber (一院), two groups (兩團) and five departments (五部).
According to KMT decision-makers' initial plan, the party's current four-layer system -- central committee, Taiwan provincial committee, county/city committee and township committee -- will be downsized into a two-layer system, consisting of central and county/city committees.
The restructure plan, proposed by the reform committee, which was established after the KMT's defeat in the March 18 presidential election, will be further discussed at a party leaders' meeting tomorrow.
The party is set to complete its reform by next August, reports said.
