A meteorite crashed in southern Peru on Sep. 15. After the meteorite crashed, many villagers got sick.
Around midday, villagers heard an explosion and a saw a fireball. Many were convinced that an airplane crashed near their village, which is in an area without a lot of people.
Soon the villagers complained of headaches and vomiting. Local health department official Jorge Lopez said people got sick from a strange smell.

Seven policemen who went to check on the reports also got sick. They had to be given oxygen and were sent to the hospital, Lopez said.
Rescue teams and experts were sent to where the meteorite crashed. It left a 30m wide and 6m deep crater.
"Boiling water started coming out of the crater.... Residents are very concerned," said local official Marco Limache. (Staff Writer, with AFP)
