Police probe Chang Te-cheng’s motive

ACT OF REBELLION?In a letter sent to media outlets, Chang said the only way to bring down a government was via ‘radical action,’ but he has yet to be questioned

“I have decided which road I want to take before the end of my life... I hope that after my death, Taiwan’s judiciary and the county’s domestic violence prevention center will clear my name. If they refuse to do so, at least all the media outlets that receive this letter will be willing to help defend my honor,” Chang said.

Meanwhile, Wu Chung-ho (吳仲和), the military conscript who slammed shut the bulletproof door that stopped Chang’s truck, was yesterday awarded a medal and given extra vacation days in recognition of his actions.

In an interview with reporters, the 23-year-old said he was not scared when he saw the truck approaching.

Wu said that at the time, he just felt that he had to close the bulletproof door to minimize the damage.

“I felt it was like a movie,” he said.

“As I saw the truck speeding toward the building, I turned around and ran up two steps to push the button to slam shut the bulletproof door. I had only two or three seconds to respond,” he added.

Wu said he was honored to have done his duty to protect the Presidential Office Building.
