UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon condemned the attack on a UN compound in the Gaza Strip during a press conference on Wednesday with Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni.
“I conveyed my strong protest and outrage to the defense minister and the foreign minister and demanded a full investigation,” Ban said.
Three shells landed inside the UN compound, which houses aid agencies and where some 700 people were seeking refuge from the fighting.
Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak apologized to Ban yesterday, Ban told reporters.
“The defense minister said to me it was a grave mistake and he took it very seriously. He assured me that extra attention will be paid to UN facilities and staff and this will not be repeated,” he said.
