Taiwanese students, teachers unhurt

By Jewel Huang  /  STAFF REPORTER

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed yesterday that around 60 Taiwanese students and faculty were all accounted for and unharmed after Monday's massacre at the Virginia Tech campus.

The Taiwan Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Washington had contacted the Taiwanese student association at the school and established that the Taiwanese students and professors were safe and well, ministry spokesman David Wang (王建業) said yesterday.

The government was saddened to learn of the tragedy, he added.

The ministry would keep in touch with the Taiwanese students and faculty at the school, he said.

Celine Lin (林曉舲), president of the Taiwanese Student Association of Virginia Tech, posted a report on the group's Web site yesterday saying that each of the students and faculty had been contacted by telephone to establish that they were safe.
