The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said yesterday that North Korea's test-firing of missiles destabilized regional and international security, and it urged Pyongyang to cease its provocations and resume negotiations.
"The test-firing of the missiles was not at all conducive to the currently stalled six-party talks, as a number of countries are trying to seek a solution to the North Korean nuclear issue," Ministry Spokesman Michel Lu (呂慶龍) said, adding that Taiwan hopes its neighboring countries could work together to maintain regional peace and security.
Lu said the ministry was continuing to monitor the situation and remained in communication with countries including the US, Japan and South Korea.
Lu urged North Korea to abandon its confrontational thinking and comply with the international request to come to the negotiation table to solve the issue peacefully.
